Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, New Community Shelter and Greater Green Bay YMCA Selected as Partners of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon

Event has donated more than $1.7 million in its 23-year history

Green Bay, WI (February 23, 2022) – Runners are gearing up to take part in the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon on May 21, 2023 as the nonprofit event continues its mission to give back to the community. The nonprofit event has selected Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, New Community Shelter and Greater Green Bay YMCA as its 2023 charity partners.

“The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon encourages wellness, boosts tourism and fosters community spirit with our sponsors and volunteers. Coming together for race weekend also makes a difference for local nonprofits. We’re able to share the mission of our charity partners with our participants and ultimately give back to programs that improve our community,” said Dr. Ashok Rai, president and CEO of Prevea Health and board president of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon.

In addition to event proceeds, charity partners benefit from the Run for a Reason program, which allows runners to raise funds for the charity partners to earn a free entry into the marathon, half marathon or relay. Participants raise $300 to receive a free entry for an individual event or $300 per team member for a relay event.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin believes that access to nutritious food is a right for all. They work to fight hunger for the one in eight people who do not know where their next meal is coming from. The organization serves neighbors across 35 counties and supports nearly 400 local pantries in that footprint. Proceeds from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will be used to further these efforts.

New Community Shelter helps the homeless and the hungry through its emergency shelter, transitional living program and community meal program. The organization believes in offering support services to access other community resources necessary for achieving self-sufficiency. Proceeds from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will be used for the community meal program, which provides dinner to anyone in need in the community 365 days a year.

Greater Green Bay YMCA is dedicated to strengthening the community and being a place where all belong. The Y focuses on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Donations from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will support the Y’s community-based afterschool programs by providing expanded enrichment opportunities, social emotional learning programs and academic resources to lift up our young people during these incredibly important out-of-school times.
