Cellcom Continues Investments in Marinette County

Four new towers complete; seven additional planned for 2022

Crivitz, WI (June 27, 2022) – Local wireless provider Cellcom is continuing its investment in Marinette County. Cellcom activated four cell sites in the county this spring, with new sites at the town hall in Crivitz, on the south side of Lake Noquebay, in the town of Grover along Highway 64, and in the town of Porterfield near the intersection of County Highway E and Highway 64. This expands coverage areas and add capacity for a better experience with data applications and increased connections during busy tourism times.

“These new cell sites help fill coverage gaps and strengthen LTE service, which is the technology that powers internet service on your smartphone and more recently became the service that you use to make calls and send texts,” said Rick Brooks, CTO and VP of Engineering for Cellcom. “As demand for data services continues to increase, new cell sites also help move users off high-traffic sites, which helps improve everyone’s experience.”

Additional improvements are planned through the rest of the year in other areas, including sites in Athelstane, near downtown Marinette, south of Marinette along County Highway B, west of Marinette along Highway 64, between Marinette and Peshtigo along Highway 41, and in Stephenson both near County Highway P and County Highway W and on Parkway Road near Cauldron Falls.

“As the only wireless provider local to Wisconsin, we know that rural areas are some of the most popular destinations for our customers. Investing in these rural communities is a priority for Cellcom,” said Brooks. “Cell sites take months of planning and implementation and supply chain delays have stretched timelines a bit, but we continue to push to complete these projects and are already planning ahead for future years.”

In addition to network enhancements, customers can take advantage of Wi-Fi Calling. This technology allows users to make calls and send texts and picture messages over a Wi-Fi connection. It’s helpful in fringe coverage areas and does not require a high-speed connection to utilize. Learn more about this service at www.cellcom.com/wificalling.
