Suring, WI (October 24, 2016) –Kelly Lake Advancement Association has been selected as a 2016 Cellcom Green Gift recipient. The nonprofit received a $300 Green Gift from Cellcom to support its Clean Boats Clean Waters program.
Clean Boats Clean Waters is a DNR program to inform boaters and anglers of the proper disposal method of all weeds and live bait. Kelly Lake Advancement Association staffs volunteers to inspect watercraft at public boat landings and talk about preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. The Green Gift from Cellcom will be used to purchase apparel from the DNR that volunteers wear for identification purposes and support printing of additional informational material about the program.
Kelly Lake Advancement Association was among 22 green organizations that received a share of the $37,800 in Green Gifts from Cellcom this year. The Green Gifts program launched in 2010 and uses funds generated from Cellcom’s cell phone recycling program to fund green nonprofit initiatives. Customers and community members can bring in their old or unwanted phones to be reused and recycled. Cellcom sends the phones to recyclers who in return send money to Cellcom for the materials that were saved from the phones. Cellcom’s Green Gift program completes the green cycle that starts with consumers being environmentally-conscious and donating their devices.
The 2016 Cellcom Green Gifts were awarded to non-profits throughout Cellcom’s service area and included Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve (Appleton), Heckrodt Wetland Reserve (Menasha), Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance (Appleton), Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay, NEW Zoo & Adventure Park (Suamico), Greater Green Bay YMCA, River District Development Foundation (Merrill), Northland Pines Farm to School Program (Eagle River), Trees for Tomorrow (Eagle River), Wild Instincts (Rhinelander), Open Door Bird Sanctuary (Sturgeon Bay), Woodland Dunes Nature Center (Two Rivers), Crossroads at Big Creek, Inc.
