Applicants must attend high school in Niagara, Florence, Pulaski, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Two Rivers, Shawano, Appleton Area School District, Neenah School District or Notre Dame Academy. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience and an essay on community involvement. Financial need is not considered. Applicants must also be planning to enroll full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school.

Green Bay, WI (December 12, 2016) – The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is over five months away, but training for the event is just around the corner. The annual kick-off party presented by Prevea Sports Medicine will get training season underway on Wednesday, January 4 at the Green Bay Distillery (835 Mike McCarthy Way, Green Bay). Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. with the program starting at 6:00 p.m.

The evening is a night of camaraderie and inspiration to get runners off on the right foot as they prepare for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon events in May.

“When you start working toward the goal of a half marathon or full marathon, it’s helpful to know that you’re not alone. Our participants all have their own reason to run, but they’re all working toward the same finish line,” said Toni Jaeckels, race director for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. “It’s motivating to come together and celebrate the start of the journey and we hope our runners leave feeling even more confident in their abilities and the training that lies ahead.”

Part of that motivation will come from the keynote speaker, Bart Yasso. Dubbed the "Mayor of Running”, Yasso is one of the best-known figures in the sport. His talk will focus on not limiting where running can take you and feature highs and lows from his 38 years participating in races around the world. Attendees will get firsthand training tips and practical advice that can make them better runners and be inspired by his infectious spirit and passion for the sport.

The kick-off will also feature an overview of the 2017 event and a presentation from Prevea Sports Medicine. The Prevea Sports Medicine team will be on-hand providing interactive RunCoachtutorials and training guides for marathon participants. Training team apparel will also be available for purchase. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required.

St. Vincent de Paul of Marshfield provides support for people in-need through its thrift store and outreach center. The donation from Cellcom and CoBank through the Sharing Success program will go toward stocking the food pantry this winter season.
